A castle raised by Magnus Eriksson in the 1300s, besieged and taken in 1364 by German soldiers, with walls up to 5 m thick. The legend: the giant Garpe lived here with a dwarf servant and a hound, owned a copper bridge visible in the lake on moonlit nights, and gave the plain-folk 'grains of gold' (grain).
