The landlord chased the fortune teller out with his dog. The dog died that evening, the landlord soon after — and the lot is still empty.

At 1bis rue de Bièvre, in the middle of one of the city's most expensive quarters, lies a plot nobody builds on. Here stood the tavern Père Hubert, notorious for generations, which a young couple took over hoping to give the place a new reputation. One day the man found his wife at a table with a fortune teller laying out tarot cards. Enraged, he drove him out with his shepherd dog. The fortune teller muttered something in the doorway and pointed at the dog, which was dead within hours. When he returned and was thrown out again he cursed the landlord openly, and a few days later the man died of an illness nobody could name. The tavern was abandoned. The legend claims that those later sent in to inspect the crumbling building sickened and died too. Today there is only a gap between the houses.
