Periklis rode into the sea and shot himself in 1910. In the house on Laskaridou Street the painter Sofia is still heard calling his name.

The street in Kallithea carries her name, and so does the legend. Sofia Laskaridou was the first woman admitted to the Athens School of Fine Arts; her fiance, the writer Periklis Giannopoulos, rode a white horse into the sea and shot himself in 1910 after she left to study abroad. She never married. Neighbours say that in the evenings a woman's voice is heard inside the old house calling his name, and that a figure moves from room to room as though searching for someone who should have been there. The shadow is said to pause at the windows facing the street before it fades. It is one of the few Athenian ghost stories where both protagonists have names, dates and graves.
