Cabra Castle outside Kingscourt is today a lavish castle hotel, but guests share it with one of Ireland's saddest ghost stories. A servant girl named Sarah is said to have fallen pregnant by a son of the house; to bury the scandal, the baby was killed and Sarah hanged by the bridge on the estate. Ever since, guests have reported the cry of an infant in the night, the figure of a woman by the bridge and the feeling of someone sitting down on the edge of the bed in certain rooms. The hotel has repeatedly been listed among the most haunted in the world, and staff have learned to greet Sarah when the lights begin to flicker.
