In the roar of Ireland's tallest fall a bean sí keens, and among the trees a coachman drives on, avenging a sentence he never earned.

Ireland's tallest waterfall drops 121 metres down the mountainside in the woods of Powerscourt. The district holds two legends. The first is of a bean sí heard keening within the noise of the fall; whoever can pick her voice out of the water should expect news of a death. The second concerns a coachman of the estate who was sentenced to death for a crime he had not committed. He never left the woods: walkers tell of hoofbeats approaching along the path with nothing to be seen, and of a coachman's figure on the box behind his horses among the trees. On the slopes above, a white lady also walks, said to have died in the house in circumstances nobody would discuss. The main house burned out in 1974, the evening after its restoration was finished.
