Among Sufi tombs and banyan trees in Delhi's city forest, a white-clad woman is said to appear – then vanish into thin air.

Sanjay Van is a sprawling city forest near Mehrauli in south Delhi, dotted with Sufi saints' tombs and remnants of the 12th-century fortress Qila Rai Pithora. The forest has long carried ghostly rumours: visitors describe weeping and laughter from the thickets when no one is near, and above all a woman in a white sari who appears by the banyan trees only to dissolve into the air a moment later. Evening cyclists claim she sometimes sits at the roadside asking for a lift – and runs after those who don't stop. With the saints' graves close by, many locals regard the forest as spiritually charged ground.
