Shillong Golf Course
Meghalaya · India · Haunted site
Across one of Asia's oldest golf courses, a rider on a headless horse is said to charge through the night mist.
The Shillong golf course, laid out by the British in 1898 in a pine-fringed valley, is called the Gleneagles of the East for its beauty – but after dark it changes character. Watchmen and late passers-by tell of a rider thundering across the turf on a horse without a head, and of hoofbeats heard in thick fog with no one in sight. Others describe a woman's figure moving along the treeline before dissolving between the trunks. The legends have made the course a fixture of Shillong's ghost tours.
