Catajo Castle
Veneto · Italia · Castle
Lucrezia Obizzi, murdered in her bedchamber in 1654, is said to appear dressed in blue at the castle's highest windows.
The vast Catajo Castle at Battaglia Terme, with 350 rooms at the foot of the Euganean Hills, was built by the powerful Obizzi family. The castle's ghost is Lucrezia Obizzi, murdered in her bedroom in Padua in 1654 by Attilio Pavanello, a spurned admirer – the most talked-about crime of the century in these parts. The stone stained with her blood was brought to Catajo and is preserved to this day. Ever since, visitors have reported a lady in blue wandering the halls or glimpsed in the topmost windows; legend says she is not malevolent but watches over the castle's guests.
