Villa De Vecchi
Lombardiet · Italia · Haunted house
In the abandoned 'Red House' of Valsassina, a smashed piano is said to play 19th-century music at night.
Villa De Vecchi in Cortenova, known as the Casa Rossa, was built in the 1850s as a summer residence for Count Felice De Vecchi. According to the dark legend, the count one day found his wife murdered and his daughter vanished without a trace, whereupon he abandoned the estate forever in despair. The orientally inspired villa has been decaying in the mountain forest ever since, and visitors claim to hear 19th-century music at night from the salon where the shattered grand piano still stands. The villa is often ranked among the world's most haunted abandoned houses and attracts hikers and urban explorers - at their own risk, as the building is derelict.
