Yeongdeok Haunted House

Norra Gyeongsang · Sør-Korea · Haunted house

By the coast road at Jangsa Beach stands the house where a loose-haired woman is said to descend the stairs – the owner fainted and fled to America.

Along National Route 7 by Jangsa Beach in Yeongdeok stands a derelict two-storey building counted among South Korea's three great haunted houses. In the 1980s it was a raw-fish restaurant, until one night the owner met a woman with long unbound hair coming down the stairs from the second floor – she fainted from terror and soon emigrated to the United States. Two shamans who later spent the night are said to have fared badly: one vanished without a trace and the other ran out driven mad. The legend is often linked to the bloody Jangsa amphibious landing of 1950, when young student soldiers died on the beach below. The house still stands untouched, in full view of thousands of passing drivers every day.
