The little Carmen chapel in central Hermosillo looks peaceful enough, but one of the city's oldest horror legends coils around it. Night-time walkers on Serdán street tell of nun-like figures gliding along the walls before dissolving into the dark, and of whispers and the crying of infants from inside the locked chapel. Many say they have heard footsteps close behind them — with no one there when they turn around. The tales have made the block a fixture on Hermosillo's ghost walks.
