"The Brown Man" has walked the parsonage for nearly two hundred years – a restless priest who never found peace in his own house.

In the old parsonage beside the Sande river, a stone's throw from Sande church, a revenant has walked for close to two hundred years. Local people call him "the Brown Man" after his clothing, and tradition is unanimous about who he was: a restless priest who for some reason never found rest. He belongs to a whole cluster of legends from the Drammen district that have been collected and retold in the local press – the Black Lady of Austad farm, shot by her husband in 1706, Hønse-Birthe, and the hauntings at Fossesholm manor. The Sande parsonage is the most isolated of them: a large white timber house on a slope above the river, the churchyard within sight, and nights where the sound of the water covers everything else moving in the house.
