Herrera Mansion

Tiaong, Quezon · Filippinene · House

In Tiaong's oldest stone house, headless Japanese soldiers are said to walk the stairs since the occupation.

The Herrera Mansion, also called the Old Stone House, was designed in 1920 by architect Tomás Mapúa for Isidro and Juliana Herrera and is considered the oldest house in Tiaong. During the Japanese occupation the house was requisitioned by the military, and locals have since told of headless figures in Japanese uniforms and of an elderly couple seen descending the spiral staircase – before they too suddenly appear without heads. The house has stood abandoned for many years, and its peeling facade in the middle of town keeps the stories alive.
