On her way to the Christmas dawn service she heard a hideous howl — and saw a carriage where two old men sat in flames, drawn by horses sparking at the legs.

At Frödinge it is told how a woman set out one Christmas morning for church. At Smörbärsbacken she heard a dreadful howl, and soon an enclosed carriage came driving through the deep snow. Two old men sat inside as if in flames, for the carriage burned, and the two horses spat fire about their legs. They drove toward the church, and another woman is said to have seen it too. Afterward the pine needles on the slope were found scorched.
