On the way to dawn Mass the wheel fell off twice – and the priest forced the Devil to carry the cart by God's help.

The priest Grevelius of Kalv, learned and pious, was said to manage all manner of things by God's help. On his way to dawn Mass in Mårdaklev a cart wheel fell off twice, and the priest understood the Devil was behind it. He had the servant throw the wheel up into the cart and forced the Evil One to carry the axle the whole way, so that people on their way to Mass heard the Devil groan. At a dance-house the priest had the servant step on his foot, and then the boy saw the Devil in the midst of the company, tongue lolling and fire pouring from his mouth.
