The borrowed scythe was not to be looked at, and proved to be a bone.

In Slättåkra it is told of a man who took on mowing more than he could manage. A stranger lent him a scythe but forbade him to whet it or look at its edge, lest it lose its bite. When all was cut he looked at the edge anyway, and saw that it was a rib he had been mowing with.
