The sorcery-wise Frykman conjured the Evil One, who took every shape — but made the mistake of revealing Frykman had once stolen a ball of yarn.

Frykman, said to have passed through the Wittenberg school and thus to be versed in sorcery, once exorcised the Evil One, called Old-Erk, at Kristinefors. The Evil One took every possible shape — now a man, now cattle, now a great fish — and even struck the book from Frykman's hand. But Frykman had another and forced him to pick it up. When the Evil One pointed out that Frykman had in his youth stolen a ball of yarn, he replied that it meant nothing, since he had used it for a good deed. In the end the Evil One was forced out through a hole in the leaded window, howling as he went.
