The merchant had promised himself to the Evil One once his stock was sold out — but there was one thing the Devil would never buy back.

In Regna a tale was told of a merchant who had signed a contract with the Evil One: when his entire stock was sold, the Devil would come for him. So the merchant always made sure to keep something unsold. When the Evil One came to claim his due, the merchant produced a ware called Sisle Gråmunne. The Devil wanted nothing to do with it — anyone who knew Sisle Gråmunne never bought it — and so he departed empty-handed.
