The Merman and the Fall of Busby
Läänemaa · Finland · Naturplats · Skrekk 3/5
A merman from the water led the proud dancers of Busby into the lake, until the whole village drowned and lay dead.
In Busby in Ormsö lived rich and overbearing farmers who celebrated fifteen weddings in one year with endless dancing, feasting and drinking. As they danced out in the open, a merman rose from the water, wrung the fiddler's neck and played himself so that all danced in wild joy. He led them out into the lake where they sank, and the village drowned; only a hidden bridal couple escaped. On the spot now lie the fields of Magnushof, and ever since the people of Ormsö shun the bagpipe.
