The outermost farm in Täftbyn in Sävar was known locally as the ghost castle, because it was haunted. By the 1930s it stood empty, but a family had lived there a year and heard a great deal. One night the man came up from the jetty and saw an old man beside the neighbouring farm: short and heavy-set, in a grey coat and hat, with a long full beard. Next morning he asked the neighbour who it had been. No one had been there. When he described the figure, the neighbour answered that he had seen the old man of the very house he was living in – dead for years. Towards the end that man had lost the use of his legs, so his wife had to carry him on her back. There had been so much misery and sickness in that farm, the neighbour said, that if all the tears shed there remained, it would be dreadful. Strandgren's old woman walked too; she had hidden money and died at relatives', and was seen coming home with her purse in her hand.
