St Olof's friary & Petrus de Dacia
Östergötland · Sverige · Monastery · Skrekk 4/5
At the vanished friary of the Black Friars, Sweden's first author wrote of the devil beating a mystic's head against the wall.
St Olof's Dominican friary (the 'Black Friars'), founded 1237, is gone above ground but was excavated 2004–05. Here worked Petrus de Dacia, called Sweden's first author, who described the mystic Christina of Stommeln: how the devil physically assaulted her, beat her head against the wall, and how she bled from stigmata. [Text documented; the events are medieval mysticism/folklore.]
