The Masonic Temple, Salt Lake City

Utah · USA · Haunted site

Clearing out an old storage room, someone found an urn holding the ashes of Charles Valentine. He was a Mason. Nobody knows why he was never buried.

The Masonic Temple in Salt Lake City was built in 1926 and 1927.

Some years ago, staff clearing out old storage rooms found an urn. It held the ashes of a man named Charles Valentine.

Enquiries established that Charles had been a Mason. Nobody could establish why his ashes had never been buried, or how long he had been on that shelf.

That is the whole of it and it does not need improving. A man who belonged to an organisation built on ritual, obligation and remembrance was put in a cupboard and forgotten, and the only reason anyone knows his name now is that somebody was tidying up.

What is reported in the building has been reported for many years and is generally connected to him.

The temple is in use and hosts events.
