They were the only people on the floor. Doors opened and closed all night. At one point the lavatory seat slammed up and down about ten times.

One correction is needed. They understood the building to have held wounded men during the battle of the Alamo. It cannot have. The Alamo was in 1836 and this building went up in 1924, as the Medical Arts Building, a hospital and doctors' offices.

That is the actual explanation for the floor's reputation, and it is a better one. The building operated for decades as a medical facility directly opposite the Alamo, and the upper floors held surgeries, wards and, according to local accounts, the mortuary.

The hotel is open and the ninth floor is let to guests.
