Bay Oaks, Lewes
Delaware · USA · Haunted site
Homeowners in this new Delaware neighbourhood have turned up Dutch pottery and arrowheads in their gardens. The ground has a history.
Bay Oaks is a recently built neighbourhood on the bay side at Lewes, Delaware, and residents report orbs and streaks of light.
The history under it is real. Lewes is the site of Zwaanendael, the first European settlement in Delaware, founded by the Dutch in 1631. Within a year every settler was dead, killed by the Lenape after a dispute that began with a piece of metal bearing the arms of Holland.
What is found in gardens here supports the location: Dutch pottery and arrowheads have both been turned up by new homeowners.
The standard telling casts the Lenape as the aggressors. The dispute began with the settlers, the retaliation followed a killing, and it is worth knowing the whole of it before repeating any of it. Nobody involved came out of 1632 alive.
