The Rave, the old Eagles Club

Wisconsin · USA · Haunted site

Milwaukee's music venue was built in the late 1920s as a men's athletic club, and security still get called to a roof where nobody is throwing anything.

The Rave in Milwaukee occupies the Eagles Club building, put up in the late 1920s as an athletic club for men. Parts of it stay cold through the height of summer.

The call security dislikes most concerns the roof. A door off the ballroom leads to the dome maintenance room and on up to the roof, and the venue has repeatedly been told that someone up there is throwing things down. When it is searched, nobody is found. What is found is what landed: empty beer cups and ashtrays on the ground below.

The basement is the other half of it. The floor down there is bare earth, and it gives access to the boiler room and to the porthole that looks into the pool. Guards sweeping the building at closing time describe an overwhelming urge to leave, a cold that arrives with it, and a strong smell they cannot place. Both accounts come from staff working the building routinely rather than from anyone who came looking for a ghost.
