A 14th-century castle on an islet where the giant Garpe lived with his dwarf and hound — his copper bridge glints in moonlight.

A castle raised by Magnus Eriksson in the 1300s, besieged and taken in 1364 by German soldiers, with walls up to 5 m thick. The legend: the giant Garpe lived here with a dwarf servant and a hound, owned a copper bridge visible in the lake on moonlit nights, and gave the plain-folk 'grains of gold' (grain). When they chose other gods he moved north — but first threw three stones at the church, still lying in the lake today. [Castle documented; Garpe is recorded folklore via the local heritage society.]
