Loshitsa Manor Park, Minsk

Minsk · Vitryssland · Farmstead

When the apricot trees bloom in Loshitsa Park, the White Lady appears – Jadwiga, mistress of the manor, who drowned in the river after a love scandal.

Loshitsa in southern Minsk is an old manor park dating back to the sixteenth century and the city's most talked-about haunted place. Here lived the landowner Evstafiy Lyubansky with his young wife Jadwiga, the centre of Minsk society at the turn of the century. After a birthday party in 1905, at which her husband reportedly caught her in another man's arms, Jadwiga vanished into the night – in the morning she was found drowned beside a capsized boat in the Svisloch river. Her white figure is said to appear in the park's avenues at midnight when the apricot trees bloom, and those who meet her may ask for luck in love.
