Legend has it that in the 1920s a young bride tripped on her gown on the grand staircase and fell to her death before ever reaching her groom — ever since, guests report a veiled figure in white gliding down the stairs and dancing alone in the ballroom. The hotel is also home to Sam McAuley, the Scottish head bellman who served for decades; after his death in 1975 he is still said to appear in his plaid jacket, helping guests with their luggage before dissolving into thin air. Today the hotel has embraced its ghosts as part of its identity, sharing the stories with its guests.
