Government House, Regina

Saskatchewan · Kanada · Manor

In the lieutenant governor's residence, cook 'Howie' still shuffles about in his slippers, rearranging rooms until the staff give in.

The 1891 vice-regal residence houses Regina's best-loved apparition, known as Howie. Many believe he is Cheun Lee, a cook who served Lieutenant Governor Archibald McNab in the 1930s and 40s and reportedly the only person to die in the house. His distinctive slippered footsteps are heard in the corridors, his figure glimpsed in the old kitchen, and objects are stubbornly relocated until staff leave them where Howie wants them. Music boxes playing on their own and doors swinging open have convinced many that he does not haunt the house alone.
