A shop-hand didn't recognise his driver until he saw the claws around the reins – and the ride went through the air.

Tølløv Knæsu from Våler served a man in Oslo who owned the black book and wished to get home for Christmas. On the road a stranger gave him a ride, and the journey went through the air past church towers and mountains. Only then did Tølløv see the claws around the reins and understand who his driver was. At Knæsu the stranger refused to come in – he was bound north to aid a child-murder, and drove off so that sparks flew behind him across Steinholsmyra.
