In a cottage at Gjellaråsen some men sat playing cards one evening, loud and banging the cards on the table. When one of them grew angry and tipped the table so the coins rolled across the floor, the others bent for the money and were not a little frightened: under the table lay a great black dog with fire blazing from its mouth and nostrils. Then they understood all too well who the dog was.
