At an inn in Balestrand the Evil One himself is said to have joined the dance — until an old priest forced him down through the floor.

The legend tells of a furious dance at an inn where a stranger joined in and whirled the girls so hard they nearly came apart. Only then did people realise who he was. Two priests tried in vain to bind him, but the old priest Valnum let him not escape: he drew a ring on the floor, a hatch opened, and the Evil One had to plunge down amid sparks and crashing. After that night the dancing came to an end.
