A maid let Old Erik loose with the black book – and the priest forced him to become a carriage wheel.

At Botne parsonage, where a renowned devil-binder is said to have lived, a maid got hold of the black book and thereby loosed Old Erik. To keep him busy until the priest returned, she scattered a barrel of rye and set him to gather it grain by grain. When he was nearly done he sensed the priest approaching and fled, knocked the wheel off the carriage, but the priest seized him, bent him into a wheel, and forced him to serve as one for the rest of the road – and at last out through the keyhole.
