The priest Samsing in Brunlanes knew many arts. His servant girl was with child and meant to kill the newborn. Samsing, who was in Larvik, learned of it and hurried home, but on the way Old Erik knocked the wheel off the cart to delay him. Samsing then forced the Evil One to serve as the wheel himself, and though it shrieked and squealed, the priest reached home in time to save the child the girl was about to smother in the cowshed.
