In the flat on Carrer de Ponent, police in 1912 found children's bones, bottles of fat, and a girl meant to be the next victim – the Vampire of the Raval had hunted for twenty years.

When police entered Enriqueta Martí's flat on Carrer de Ponent – today's Carrer de Joaquín Costa – in February 1912, they found the missing five-year-old Teresita alive, and in wardrobes and sacks the remains of other children: bones, hair, and bottles of rendered fat. Martí was said to have snatched street children and boiled 'remedies' from them for paying clients, begging in rags by night and wearing fine clothes by day. She died in the Reina Amàlia women's prison in 1913, before her trial, and was dumped in an unmarked mass grave. In the Raval her black-clad figure is still said to slip along the house walls at dusk, watching for children. Later historians argue much of the story was black legend – which has not made the street any less chilling.
