In the woods above Barcelona rot the ruins of a luxury casino with a "suicide room", where ruined gamblers withdrew to end their lives.

In 1911 the Gran Casino de la Rabassada opened in the Collserola woods above Barcelona – a luxury palace built to rival Monte Carlo. The gambling ban of 1912 broke it almost immediately; it closed for good in 1930 and was largely demolished in 1940, leaving overgrown staircases, terraces and vaults scattered through the forest. Most notorious is the tale of the suicide room, a secluded chamber where gamblers who had lost everything could withdraw to end their lives. Visitors claim to have caught voices on tape among the ruins and glimpsed a man and a girl in early-1900s dress, and Barcelona folklore also ties the site to the child murderer Enriqueta Martí, the Vampire of the Raval.
