Château de Fougeret
Nouvelle-Aquitaine · France · Castle
Called the most haunted castle in France, its owners reckon a dozen invisible residents share the house.
Château de Fougeret has stood on a height above the river Vienne at Queaux since the 14th century and has in recent years become France's most talked-about haunted castle. When the current owners moved in they were met by footsteps in empty corridors, sudden scents and figures glimpsed at the edge of vision, and psychic visitors claim a dozen spirits inhabit the house — among them a woman named Éléonore. The castle has featured in countless ghost hunts and television reports. Today it embraces its reputation, offering tours, ghost nights and overnight stays for anyone who wants to test it themselves.
