The very night Norman Leslie fell in France in 1914, he appeared in the Red Room back home at the castle — bathed in a cloud of light.

Castle Leslie at Glaslough has belonged to the Leslie family since the 1660s, and the family has always spoken openly of its ghosts. Best known is the story of Captain Norman Leslie, killed in France in October 1914: at that same time he is said to have appeared back home at the castle, where his mother saw him in the Red Room surrounded by a shimmering light, bent over letters as though settling his final affairs. His room is today one of the hotel's most requested. Norman's mother Lady Marjorie is also said to linger, and guests describe a gentle presence drifting through the old halls.
