Ramoji Film City
Telangana · India · Urban site
The world's largest film city is said to stand on the Nizams' battleground – and the fallen soldiers disrupt the shoots.
Ramoji Film City outside Hyderabad opened in 1996 and ranks as the world's largest film studio complex. A stubborn legend holds that it was built on ground where the Nizams' soldiers once fell in battle, and that their spirits never left. Lighting technicians tell of spotlights failing and falling, actresses of unseen hands tearing at their clothes and mirrors marked with inexplicable signs, and hotel guests of beds shaking and blankets pulled away at night. Stars such as Taapsee Pannu have described footsteps in empty corridors. Management denies it all – but the stories grow with every shoot.
