The Blue Lady, who leapt to her death rather than marry against her will, is still glimpsed in the palace mirrors.

Built in 1586 in the Buskett woodland, this Renaissance palace now serves as the summer residence of Malta's president. Legend has it that a young noblewoman, often said to be a niece of Grand Master de Rohan, was locked in a room after refusing the suitor chosen for her. Attempting a desperate escape, she fell from a window to her death, dressed in her blue gown. Ever since, she is said to appear in the palace mirrors and along the balcony edges, always wearing the same blue dress. One much-quoted account comes from a British staff member who, in 1917, saw her standing behind him in a mirror as he knotted his tie.
