Mohatta Palace was built in 1927 as the summer residence of Hindu businessman Shivratan Mohatta, who was forced to leave everything behind at Partition in 1947. The pink stone palace is now a museum, but staff call it Karachi's house of ghosts: guards hear party sounds and clinking glasses from empty halls, objects change places overnight, and lights move in the windows while the building stands locked.
