An unseen carriage sped over the water – and the Fiend answered he was off to fetch the baker who mixed lime into the soldiers' flour.

On Fårö it was told of a skipper who heard a carriage racing over the water and called out to ask who travelled. The voice answered that it was the Fiend, bound to fetch the crown baker in London. When the skipper asked what the man had done, he was told the baker had mixed lime into the flour for the troops, who had died of it.
