In the dark the unbaptised child was dragged toward the door – and found at last without its head, until the fire was lit anew.

At Stockvike in Öja a woman lay one night with her still unbaptised child while the hearth fire had gone out. Suddenly she woke to find the child gone; after a frantic search it was found down by the door, where the Evil One had already dragged it. Worst of all, the child had no head – but only when the fire was lit again was it whole and sound once more.
