A customer read the devil loose in the office – and had to keep him busy with peas until the merchant returned.

In Bergen the merchant Blauw owned the black book. A customer came into the office while the book lay out, leafed through it, and read the devil free. The man knew he had to set him to work and emptied a sack of peas on the floor, so the devil had to fetch them one at a time. Before he finished, Blauw returned, drew a ring with a cross on the floor, and conjured him down through it.
