Hedmark · Norway · Site of legend

Someone had hidden the priest's carriage wheel – and the imp himself had to hold up in its place all the way home.

Mentz Rynning, parish priest of Eidskog and Vinger, is said to have owned the black book and known more than other men. Once, as he was heading home from Matrand, someone had stolen and hidden one of his carriage wheels. He then declared that whoever had taken the wheel should hold up in its place – and so it was the imp himself who had to do the service. He shrieked and carried on, but did not escape, and the journey home went faster than fast.
