In Rendalen they say the king in Bergen wanted to test whether the merchant-priest Petter Dass was more learned than others, asking him to preach in Copenhagen on Christmas Day. The priest knocked three times on the table, chose the one who flew as fast as human thought, and traded the souls of sleepers for the journey. On the pulpit he turned over a blank sheet and preached on how God created the world from nothing.
