The highest point on the Bosphorus is called Yuşa Tepesi, and on its crown lies a grave seventeen metres long. Tradition holds that the prophet Yuşa — Joshua — came here with Moses to the place where the two seas meet, and that he died and was buried on the mountain. There are two explanations for the grave's length. One is that the exact position of the body was never established but only indicated in a dream, so the whole area was set aside. The other, older one, is that giants once lived on this hill and that the prophet was one of them. That the grave lay here is said to have been revealed to Yahya Efendi in the 16th century. Before Islam an altar to Zeus stood on this summit. Pilgrims circle the long grave clockwise, and below them the whole strait opens toward the Black Sea.
