Miss Kate
Wyoming · United States · Hotel
She worked here from the day it opened until she died: caretaker, seamstress, waitress and everything else. Her ashes are in the wall.
Miss Kate Arnold worked at the Sheridan Inn in Wyoming from around the time it opened at the turn of the century until her death, some sixty years later. She was caretaker, seamstress, waitress and a good deal else besides, and she lived in the building.
She makes noises, startles guests, turns lights on and off, and has been known to set things going on her own account.
Her ashes were placed in the wall of her third floor room, which is the answer to why she is still there and one of the few cases in this archive where somebody was deliberately kept in a building.
The inn itself was built in 1893 for the railway and was run for a time by Buffalo Bill Cody, who auditioned acts for his Wild West show on the front porch.
It has been restored and is open.
