Den Noodt Gods Haunted House (Bruges)
Flandern – West-Vlaanderen (Brygge) · Belgium · Haunted house
A monk and a young nun vanished without a trace from this convent house on Spanjaardstraat – locals have called it 'the Ghost House' ever since.
The house Den Noodt Gods on Spanjaardstraat in Bruges was once a convent house, linked to the Augustinian monastery by a secret underground passage. Legend says a friar fell in love with a young novice; one night he took the tunnel to seek out his beloved – and the pair vanished without a trace, after which the nuns abandoned the house, believing it bewitched. Ever since, people have told of a pale female figure and a priest-like shape wandering the rooms at night. In 1877 the English Unlacke family lived here and reported repeated ghostly encounters, calling in the famous medium Eglinton to investigate. To the people of Bruges the house is still known simply as ''t Spookhuis' – the Ghost House.
