Fort Garry Hotel

In Room 202 of Winnipeg's railway hotel, guests wake to a woman in a ball gown standing at the foot of the bed.

The Fort Garry Hotel, a stately 1913 railway hotel in Winnipeg, is best known for Room 202. According to the hotel's own account, a newlywed couple stayed there in the 1920s; when the groom stepped out to fetch headache medicine for his wife he was struck and killed by a horse-drawn cart, and the grief-stricken bride took her own life. Guests in the room wake to footsteps circling the bed, wet footfalls from the bathroom, hangers scraping in the closet — and sometimes a woman in a ball gown or a man cloaked in black at the foot of the bed. The hotel is frequently ranked among the most haunted in the world.
